Genialiteit en gekte liggen dicht bij elkaar. Deze uitspraak is wat mij betreft zeker van toepassing op regisseur David Lynch. Zijn meesterwerk: Twin Peaks.
Het mysterie "Wie vermoorde Laura Palmer?" hield mij maanden in de greep. De serie was ronduit beklemmend, soms zelfs doodeng, maar intrigeerde van de 1e tot de laatste minuut. Maar hoe beangstigend Twin Peaks ook kon zijn; ook ik als kijker voelde me veilig in de handen van Special Agent Dale Cooper die als een baken van licht de weg door het duister wees.
Daar waar veel TV-series vervallen in de clichématige zwart-wit typologie van goed en slecht (de held en de schurk); daar kende Twin Peaks alleen grijstinten. Alle personages hadden wel iets te verbergen. En juist deze schaduwzijdes maakte het verhaal en de serie interessant.
Twin Peaks opende ook deurtjes naar 'andere werelden'. Werelden en dimensies die we niet zien, maar die er wel zijn. Alleen het gegeven dat de serie zo sterk aan onze angsten appelleert... dat kan alleen wanneer iets aangeraakt wordt dat wel degelijk bestaat en in onszelf resoneert. En dus echt is!
Twin Peaks kende een rijkheid aan bijzondere personages en had visueel en muzikaal een geheel eigen stijl. Bij een tekort aan superlatieven rest mij een diepe buiging voor de meester....Een gemiddelde waardering van een 9.1 van het doorgaans zeer kritische publiek op IMDB geeft al aan dat we hier met een monument in de TV-geschiedenis te maken hebben.
David Lynch weet als geen ander vrouwen te omringen met een aura van sensualiteit. Alleen al om die reden was Twin Peaks een feest om naar te kijken. Rollen zoals Audrey, Laura, Donna... schoonheid van een andere planeet.
Deze vrouwen hebben allen iets van een donkere kant die ze nog veel spannender en aantrekkelijker maakt. De juiste mix van erotiek en mysterie maakt ze stuk voor stuk tot femme fatales. En zoals eerder beschreven in dit weblog is zijn femme fatales voor veel mannen onweerstaanbaar. (of moet ik hier zeggen 'ik')
